"Trains for the Garden" ABN 95 566 865 338 Mobile Phone 0419 504 432 Email:admin@trainsforthegarden.com Getting started with Garden Trains. Our Train Shop is
situated in the Dandenong Ranges, east of Melbourne.
We sell Garden Trains, Accessories and Gardening
books.
Our train shop is open on an appointment basis from Tuesday to Saturday between 10 am and 3pm. Whilst we are flexible, we don't take appointments on Sunday. We have been selling Garden Trains for over 33 years and have considerable experience in setting up a train layout in the garden. And we are aware of many of the pitfalls that allow us to give sound advice based on our personal experiences. Garden Trains have been very popular in overseas gardens for many years, and have become very much so in Australia. They are easy to run, affordable and offer a great deal of entertainment for friends and family. The weather proof track can be permanently laid in the garden. It consists of code 332 brass rail set on ultra violet safe plastic sleepers with a gauge of 45mm between the rails. We own the tooling for 'AusRail' sleeper bed which is manufactured in Australia and very affordable. In the leading brands
locomotives, carriages and wagons are made of automotive
quality plastics which enables them to be used
outdoors and to withstand weathering. (However it is
not advisable to leave locomotives or rolling
stock, permanently out in the weather).
The locomotives run
from a 240 volt power supply to a controller,
both of which, should be set up indoors in either a garage or a
shed with power available. The
controller emits between 17-24 volts to the
track, similar to that used to set up low
voltage garden lighting.
The most economical way of delivering the power to the track is from an under cover power supply and controller, by using trailer wire, (also available from our shop). It is also possible to set up an operating system, using Radio Control . Garden trains are certainly fun for the whole family. The idea of a train running through a garden landscaped with living miniature plants, natural rock features, and real water is very appealing. Your garden becomes the scenery with rockery plants and miniature trees enhancing a rather nostalgic extension to the garden. It is certainly a great way to bring family and friends together with a popular interest! LGB or Piko starter sets are the most popular way to enter the hobby. And most of the Starter sets available contain everything necessary to get you going. They represent good value for money compared to purchasing the items individually. Most sets contain a locomotive, several coaches or wagons, a circle or oval of track and an Australian approved Power supply and a Control Box. Depending on your budget some of the sets also include extra features such as smoke units and realistic sound in the locomotives. In normal times we hold "Train days" at our nursery where you can enjoy our outdoor train display and garden. If you would like to receive notifications concerning these events please send us your email address. Click here to view photos of our Garden train display. Our range of stock may be viewed through our 'Products Page' or in person in our shop. Don't hesitate to call or email us, should you have any questions. Ring Col on 0419 504 432 or email us at admin@trainsforthegarden.com for an appointment. Mail order is welcome and we accept 'direct credit' to our account, credit card or cash payments.
