"Trains for the Garden" ABN 99 633 824 681 Phone /Fax 03 97379827 Mobile 0419 504 432 Getting started with Garden Trains. Our nursery is situated
in the Dandenongs, east of Melbourne. We sell bulbs,
trains and gardening books.
We have been selling garden trains for over 26 years and have considerable experience in setting up a layout in the garden. We are aware of many of the pitfalls and this allows us to give sound advice based on our personal experiences. As well as the free advice we also offer an installation service at reasonable rates. Garden Trains are very popular in overseas gardens. They are easy to run, affordable and offer a great deal of entertainment. The weather proof track can be permanently laid in the garden. It consists of code 332 brass rail set on ultra violet safe plastic sleepers with a gauge of 45mm between the rails. We own the tooling for the sleepers which we market as AusRail. To enhance the realism the rail can be laid on a bed of quarter-minus screenings. In the top brands
locomotives, carriages and wagons are made of
automotive quality plastics which enables them to be
used outdoors and to withstand weathering. (However
it is not advisable to leave locomotives and
rolling stock permanently out in the weather).
The locomotives run
from a 240 volt power control which is set up indoors in either the garage or a
shed with power available. The power
supply from the controller is between 18-24
volts similar to that used to set up low voltage
garden lighting.
The most economical way of delivering the power to the track from the under cover controller, is by the using 5 or 7 core trailer wire, (also available from our nursery). Garden trains are certainly fun for the whole family. Your garden becomes the scenery with natural rocks, rockery plants and miniature bulbs enhancing a rather nostalgic extension to the garden. Certainly a great way to get Dad and the boys interested in the garden and a way of bringing the family together with a common interest! For us, the idea of a train running through a garden landscaped with living miniature plants, natural rock features, and real water is very appealing. Starter sets are the most popular way to enter the hobby. And most of the Starter sets that are available contain everything necessary to get started. They represent good value for money compared to purchasing the items separately. Most of the sets contain a locomotive, two coaches or wagons, a circle or oval of track and a transformer/controller. Depending on your budget some of the sets also include extra features such as smoke units and or realistic sound. From time to time we hold "Train days" at our nursery where you can enjoy our outdoor train display and garden To view photos of our Garden train display, click here. To view train open days click here. Please do not hesitate to call should you have any questions, or would like to know when the next display is to be held.
