Coins and Collectables.

Prior to 1910  English coin including Gold Sovereigns and half Sovereigns were used as the accepted currency in Australia . As well as in Britain, Sovereigns  were also minted in  several Australian cities with gold from the Australian gold fields. These along with small denomination English coins, were the currency of the day in Australia.

In 1910 the first Australian coins were minted, they consisted of the silver florin, shilling, sixpence and threepence. In 1911  the penny and halfpenny were introduced. In 1937 & 1938 silver Crowns valued at five shilling were issued. Because of their size they proved to be unpopular and disappeared from circulation. English coins constantly appeared in change right up until 1966.

In 1966 the imperial coins were replaced with decimal currency.
